Common Questions & Answers
· What is Nobel Learning Academy?
The Academy is an after school-learning center that provides both enrichment and remedial assistance for the advancement of our enrolled students in their grade level and beyond. We meet with our students 2-4 times a week and provide a curriculum that meets the Common Core Standards within their school’s classroom so that they may receive extra help to catch up to grade level, or move ahead of their grade level if they are already excelling in school.
· What materials does my child work on during their stay at the Academy?
Each child takes an online 1 hour adaptive diagnostic per subject. After this diagnostic, a curriculum is mapped to reflect each student’s personal strengths and weaknesses that covers a multitude of materials; no two students have the exact same lesson plan! Each student moves at their own pace with the support and guidance of the staff and Administrator.
· Who is the Administrator? What are the staff’s credentials?
Ms. Justine has had several years of experience in the after-school education program. She was a General Manager for 7 years of a previous after school program when she decided to open her own Academy that better reflected the needs of the students in relation to their schoolwork. She has a double Bachelor of Arts (BA) from UCSB in the field of Sociology and English, and is currently obtaining her Masters in the Art of Teaching (MAT) with a specialization in English from USC. The staff she hires ranges from Seniors in High School who are in either the AP/Honors or IB program, to College students and graduates with majors in Child Development, Physics, Biology, Biochemistry, Psychology, English, and Mathematics.
· Will the Academy help my child with their school homework?
The first thing the Academy will address is the curriculum that we have provided for the student in order to catch up to grade level. When the student’s curriculum assignments for that class session are completed, we will then turn to the homework from the school. We must insist that some of this homework must also be done at home, as we find it to be important that parents be involved in their child’s homework assignments as well. We will do our best with the knowledge that we have to assist in your child’s homework, but it is ultimately the student’s responsibility in understanding and completing their homework assignments in a timely manner.
· Will my child be happy here at the Academy?
We believe in making sure that every student feels as though the Academy is a safe place to grow and learn new concepts and materials. We understand the difficulties that many children face in a crowded classroom (lessons moving too fast, too much repetition, not enough explanation), so we strive to have every student feel as though he or she is a special individual who has the right to a proper education the moment they enter our doors.
· What other benefits does the Academy offer for my child?
It is not uncommon for many of our students to stay with us for several years. We find that overseeing a student’s progress, not just for 1 academic year of their life, but from Pre-K to 12th grade benefits both the student and us. We provide mentoring and coaching throughout Pre-Kindergarten, Elementary School, Middle School, High School, and even preparation to College through the use of The Princeton Review® for PSAT/SAT/ACT/AP test prep and even overseeing their college admission applications and essays.
